Tantrika 4 Freedoms Tantra presents:

    The Art of Tantric Sex

By Mariellen Ward, of Power 106 FM radio from Burbank California

Tantric sex is an idea whose time has come. Also called sacred sex, Tantric sex celebrates sex as a beautiful and sacred experience. It is a very different view of sex than the one many of us grew up with. Tantric sex is potentially healing for people who have felt suppressed or inhibited by the puritanical view of sex. The puritanical view holds that sex is shameful and should be performed in secret.

“So much of our culture treats sex in a shabby way, but we see the body as beautiful and sacred, and sexuality as a good thing,” says Al Link, who with his partner Pala Copeland facilitates Tantra weekends for couples in their home near Ottawa, Ontario. “Sexuality has moral force because it is a key expression of love.”

Tantra may be a radically new philosophy to many people, but it is actually 4,000 to 5,000 years old. Tantra is a philosophy and a system for using sexual energy to become spiritually awakened. It has its roots in the Hindu and Buddhist practices of India and Tibet.

“Tantric sex is a practice that reunites body and spirit,” says Al Link. “The purpose of sex is union, union with the beloved or with the divine.”

In other words, Tantric sex regards sex as a joyous and life-affirming path to spiritual awareness and ecstatic bliss. But in order to reach states of ecstatic bliss, men must be taught to separate orgasm from ejaculation - which gives women enough time to become aroused and orgasmic. And both men and women need to learn how to work with their sexual energy, and move it out of the genital area, and through the entire body.

“Tantric sex leads to non-goal-oriented sex,” says Link. “Love-making can take many hours, and because you’re not trying to have an orgasm, you actually have more of them.”
