You will have free-time during our weeklong workshop to explore some of the many wonders Costa Rica offers.

Learning sessions are in the mornings and celebrations are in the evenings, so most afternoons you'll be free to play—hiking the hills, walking the beach, exploring the local towns (like area hot spot Playas del Coco), joining an organized tour, doing your "homework", or simply relaxing in the pool!

 

Playa Ocotal

Ocotal, where Villa Paraiso is situated, is an exclusive hillside community of luxury homes and fine hotels located on the northwest coast of Costa Rica, just a half hour drive from the International airport outside of Liberia.

 

Sea and sky scapes are spectacular from each property, and have been featured in such magazines as Southern Living and Conde Nast. The beach, down the hillside from the Villa, is one-third mile long, with splashes of volcanic rock along the tide line. Ocotal beach is ideal for swimming.

 

There's lots of tiny marine life to see in the tide pools, which form with the ebb and flow of the tide. At anchor in Ocotal Bay are sport-fishing boats, ready to take the adventurous out to hook a marlin or sail fish. Stop in for a cool drink or a tasty snack at the friendly Father Rooster Bar. There are many resident monkeys in the trees of Ocotal to spot, plus a myriad of tropical birds and other wildlife to encounter.

COCO BEACH

Three kilometres away is Coco beach, a Costa Rican fishing village that boasts a variety of restaurants with foreign flavors from Italy, Mexico and the US, as well as the fresh seafood landed daily by local fishermen. Browse the shops dotting the street in centro, (downtown) and take in the array of arts & crafts displayed in the street market featuring native craftsmanship & design. After sunset cocktails, the tranquil Coco bursts into night, and' fiesta' is the word. Of the many bars found in Coco, two are discos. If you're feeling lucky try your hand at one of the two casinos.

Special Excursions

One full day during the week we will have as an optional excursion day. Allan, our friendly and very knowledgeable guide, will come to our villa and present all of the available tours and their cost and answer any questions you may have. He is an excellent tour guide with a wealth of knowledge about his country, a great sense of adventure, and an efficient yet relaxed attitude. Some of the tours he offers are listed below.

There are also a few new additions, like: a trip to the Arenal Volcano, an excursion into Nicaragua, and a visit to Turtle Beach.

 

Tree Top Canopy Tour

Hoist yourself up high into the tree line and go gliding across the top of the rain forest near Rincon de la Vieja. This tour is one of the most popular excursions for visitors to Costa Rica. The tour includes: horseriding, canopy walk, the sulfur springs and mud baths, revitalizing hot-medium-cold pools, refreshments, lunch, and transportation.

 

After your canopy walk and lunch, you can relax your muscles in a sauna built over the steaming vents from the volcano. Then enjoy a mudbath by applying warm clay that has been gathered from the nearby boiling deposits. This clay does wonders for your skin and the natural, warm mineral pools soak away stress and muscle aches. What a fabulous day

 

River Rafting

For a bit of excitement, go on a white water rafting trip at one of the many rivers nearby. You have your choice of nearly any class of rapids, depending on the time of year and river of choice.

 

Or, float down the gentle Corobici if you prefer to relax and take in the sights, which include howler monkeys, jaguars, egrets, kingfishers, boat-billed herons, and yes, crocodiles, and even a boa constrictor hanging in the trees

 

 

Los Innocentes Ranch Horseback Riding Tour

Ride through the jungles and along the rivers at the base of Orosi Volcano. Along the way, you may spot four different species of monkeys, a three-toed sloth, a coati, and, if you're lucky, maybe even a cougar or a jaguar.

 

Afterward, relax with refreshments on the veranda of the beautiful ranch while a resident toucan circles around.

 

 

Guatil Village Indian Pottery

Guatil village, about 40 minutes from the villa, is known for its Indian pottery-making heritage. You can watch the artists as they make the pottery. Take a look behind some of the storefronts you'll find the handmade kilns used to fire these incredible pots.

 

You will probably want to take a few pieces home. Not only is the pottery lovely but the prices are extremely reasonable.

 

 

The Monkey Trail

The Monkey Trail is a short drive from the villa. This tour is a must for those who want to see trees filled with Costa Rica's playful monkeys.

 

There's also a troupe of monkeys who hangout in the trees near the beach just below Villa Paraiso. We could hear them howling in the early morning.

 

 

Sportfishing Charters

Experience the excitement of a fishing vacation you'll never forget! The waters off Costa Rica contain some of the hottest fishing spots for marlin, dorado, sailfish, and wahoo. According to the International Game Fishing Association, Costa Rica holds 44 line class records, 17 fly rod records, and 18 all-tackle records.

 

The sportfishing boats boast state-of-the-art equipment and safety gear. Many operators also include activities for non-fishing tour members, such as snorkeling or diving.
