Private Beachfront Estate – Site of our Tropic Tantra Retreat, March 3-10, 2012

From the moment we arrived, we felt like royalty. When we entered the main gate and began the long drive through the estate’s gardens, we knew we were in a magical place.

Golden Clouds is a spectacular oceanfront villa located on Jamaica’s fabled North Coast in the picturesque village of Oracabessa. Located a fifteen minute drive from Ocho Rios, the villa overlooks a private palm fringed, white sand beach and the Caribbean Sea.

There is a “Wall of Fame” of celebrities who have stayed at Golden Clouds, and the villa has quite an interesting history. It was featured in the movie “The Mighty Quinn” starring Denzel Washington, and one of the first guests to stay at Golden Clouds was Charlie Chaplin – 100 years ago!

Golden Clouds has world-famous snorkeling directly in front of the property with multiple access points to the sea from the beach and by ladders, and features its own swimming platform located offshore.

Golden Clouds villa sits high above the sea, overlooking the most fantastic shades of turquoise with a mix of sand, reefs and the deep blue sea right in the back yard of this lovely home.

There is a white sand beach section for sunning on beach lounge chairs. Walk down a few more steps to a deck where you can slip into the water and cool down.

My swimming skills are somewhat lacking and I have always been a bit of a nervous Nelly when it comes to swimming in the.sea, but the beach at Golden Clouds is very inviting for a novice like me.

There are many large indoor/outdoor living areas which open directly onto multi-level terraces, running the entire waterfront length of the estate, offering the most fantastic views from all points.

All bedrooms are well appointed, very comfortable and spacious. All have air conditioning and private baths, hair dryers, ceiling fans and TVs.

There are 2 swimming pools on the estate, as well as a tennis court, volleyball court, shuffleboard, basketball half-court, a modern fully-equipped exercise room and a yoga studio.

Enjoy the soft, palm-lined beach built elevated over the turquoise water of the Caribbean. The swimming area is like an entertainment villa unto itself, with the freshwater pool ringed by a terrace, thatched-roof gazebo and game and fitness room. Just outside are snorkeling and diving reefs, as well as spectacular views of the Jamaican coastline and sunsets.

Explore the 6 (that’s six!) acres of private beauty surrounding the villa – gardens, tennis and volleyball courts, hidden grottos–lots of spots for romance.

One of my passions is gardening and I spent many hours in the Zen garden admiring the hundreds of plants, flowers, and fruit trees. The orchids were absolutely stunning.

It’s a very special place, and I’ve never been anywhere quite like it. Lots of good vibes at Golden Clouds, and the sunsets are unbelievable.

GoldenEye Hotel and Resort: If you want to extend your vacation in Jamaica after our weeklong workshop, there are lots of wonderful places to stay, among them is GoldenEye, which is Golden Clouds next door neighbor. It was once the modest three-bedroom house where in the 1950s Ian Fleming wrote his James Bond novels. Noël Coward used to call it Golden Eye, Nose, and Throat because of its bare-bones resemblance to a clinic but it’s had a major nip and tuck, acquiring nine new beach cottages, two cottages on the lagoon, two more pools, and, most important, Conroy Arnold, a young Jamaican chef who trained with Eric Ripert and Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa in New York. The place feels like the kind of private beach club where A-listers hang out away from prying eyes. Pierce Brosnan, the Clintons, and Johnny Depp have all been guests.
